Shane Rigney
that coached, reffed and helped out with the league since
day one passed away early morning on Jan 14th.
Shane was on the board for the NSFFL and was instrumental in
the smooth running of the league since it started. Shane
never had any kids in the program but coached every season
since its inception. Shane, a teacher in Peabody, Lynn and
more recently Winthrop always put the kids first in and out
of school.

Punt, Pass &
Kick
If not for an
unfortunate punt that went off the side of her foot,
Peabody's Taylor Dabney would probably be headed for the
Nationals at the AFC Championship Game next month. The
Higgins Middle School eighth grader was second at the
sectional round of the Punt, Pass, and Kick competition
recently at Gillette Stadium.
"I hit it wrong, and the ball rolled off my ankle," said the
13-year old.

2009
Let It Fly
Tournament
The North Shore
flag football league is officially over for the 2009 season
and going into hibernation until the spring. This past
weekend the league sent a total of 5 teams to play in the
let it Fly tournament held at Charlestown high school. The
weather was the worst the league has seen all year but
despite the conditions the tournament went ahead and every
team played at least three games.

2009
NSFFL's
Championship Series
Last Saturday
November 28th saw the 3rd championship series held at the
impressive Manning stadium in Lynn, MA. In all, 25 teams
competed in 4 age categories representing 8 different towns
and cities from MA, NH and CT, the combined record of teams
entering the tournament was 179-18-2.
In the 5-6
division Peabody and Beverly represented the NSFFL as thier
respective champions.

2009
Baltimore
Ravens NFL Regional Qualifier
Last Saturday
November 7th two teams from the North Shore traveled to
Baltimore, MD to compete in the NFL FLAG regional qualifier
with the hopes of advancing to the Nationals next January.
Players and parents made the 10 hour drive from Peabody, MA
to Preston, MD with teams made up of players from Revere,
Peabody and Lynn.
The tournament
had 33 teams enter in the 9-11 co-ed, 12-14 boys and 12-14
girls categories, there were teams from MD, MA, IA, NJ, NY,
CT and OH.

NY Jets NFL
Flag Regional Qualifier
Last weekend the
NSFFL 9-11 all-star team traveled to the New York Jets
regional qualifier held at the magnificent NY Jets practice
facility in Florham park, NJ. The team put together with
players from Peabody, Lynn and Salem were coached by long
time coach Batista (Peabody Steelers) and went to NJ with
high expectations and the chance to move on to the Nationals
held in 2010 in conjunction with the Pro Bowl in Florida.

Punt, Pass &
Kick Competition
Last Saturday at
Emerson park in Peabody the NSFFL league organized its first
ever NFL Punt, Pass and Kick competition.
The competition
was free and open to any boy or girl aged between 8-15, on
the day around 50 kids turned up to display their punting,
passing and kicking skills.

Plymouth, MA
Jamboree!
8 teams competed
in three age divisions from MA and NH and the NSFFL league
entered two teams into the 9-11 and 12-14 divisions.

West Roxbury
High Youth Flag Football Tournament
This past Sunday
the NSFFL league organized 2 teams to travel to West Roxbury
High school to participate in a youth flag football
tournament.
There were two
two divisions offered, U12 and U14 and the league entered
one team in each division.

4th Annual
Football Festival
The 4th Annual
Football Festival tournament organized by the North Shore
Flag Football League was played on the beautiful New England
Patriots practice fields with Gillette stadium providing an
eye catching back drop.
The tournament
had 44 teams competing in 5 different categories and saw
teams from as far away as Miami, FL compete.

NSFFL's
Championship Series
Last Sunday June
28th the 2009 spring flag football season finally came to an
end as the league organized the second bi-annual
Championship series. The Championship Series was introduced
last fall and brings together the Championship teams from
each town/city in the NSFFL.
In the fall of
'08 Peabody, Beverly and Lynn from the 7-8 division competed
in the first ever Championship series with Beverly being
crowned the first ever Champion of Champions.

Charity Bowl
The North Shore
Flag Football League is organizing the first annual Charity
Bowl between the Peabody and Lynn Police and Fire
Departments.
The game
scheduled for Sunday March 29th at the new Manning field in
Lynn will see the Peabody Police dept take on the Lynn
police dept followed by the Lynn Fire Dept V's the Peabody
Fire dept.

Cheering Program
For the first
season, only Peabody will be involved in the cheering
program and then over time the other North Shore flag
football towns will introduce cheer.
Flag Football cheering is fun, fun, fun, low commitment, low
cost and no stress. There are no tournaments, no travel, no
worries, just show up once a week to practice and then
cheer.

Girl Power
When it comes to
flag football there is not a lot that Peabodys kenia McKeon
has not done.
Kenia was one of
the first girls to start playing NFL flag football in
Peabody and along with her brother won the championship in
her first season. Since that time (fall 2004) Kenia has put
together quite an impressive flag football resume (see
below) This January Kenias story is featured in a 2 page
spread in Sports illustrated for kids.

2008
National
Tournament of Champions
The NFL Flag
National Tournament of Champions is held every November at
Disneys Wide World of Sports complex in Florida.
Teams from all over the country compete in their regional
qualifiers for a chance to make it to the National
Championship.
This past
tournament was the biggest to date and the compeition was
better than ever.
