Buddy Bowl

NSFFL wins buddy bowl tournament and helps raise money for wounded veterans.

Last Saturday the NSFFL entered the 9-11 NSFFL Patriots in the Buddy bowl for the first time. The NSFFL Patriots are the 8 boys that won the New England regional this past October in CT and are heading to the Nationals next Jan in Florida to represent the North East, the team will be practicing and scrimmaging all the way through until they leave for nationals. In preparation for the nationals the team entered the older more competitive 12-14 division. The tournament for adults and kids held in Millis, MA has been going for 35 years with the purpose of raining money for wounded military and law enforcement. The NSFFL made a donation to the Charity and entered a team to participate.

During the first game the Patriots went up against the BSCCP and the smaller Pats scored first with a pass from Foster (Lynn) to Echevarria (Peabody) followed by 2 Interceptions for TD's by Loizides (Peabody), giving the Pats the 20-6 victory. In the second game the Pats faced the young Marines and won the game 33-0 with TD runs form Echevarria, Neville (Lynn) and Perez (Salem) combined with scoring passes from Foster to Echevarria and Durant (Lynn) XP converted by Severance (Lynn). The 3rd game against the RI team saw another shut out victory 21-0 with deep passes caught for TD's by Perez, Neville and Echevarria. In the Championship game the NSFFL Pats faced the Flash and completed their 3rd shut out of the day by winning the Championship 28-0 with TD's from Perez and 3 more TD's from tournament MVP Echevarria.

The event was as always a big success raising thousands of dollars for local injured military and law enforcement through flag football. The NSFFL was happy to be invited and glad to be a part of such a great event, next year we are looking to take multiple teams in all age categories.

The Buddy Bowl was founded in 1977 in San Diego, CA as a fun way to annually reunite friends who had a common interest in playing football. In 1999 the Buddy Bowl’s focus changed from simply a reunion of friends to that of raising money for a worthy cause. In June of 2003 Buddy Bowl Inc. was incorporated as a 501 (c) 3 not-for-profit corporation dedicated to raising money for military, law enforcement, and children’s related charities through the annual flag football tournament.
The Buddy Bowl is unique because it is the only annual event in the U.S. that raises money for military and law enforcement personnel and their families through a community based flag football tournament that includes both physically challenged and able-bodied participants.
