2009
Let It Fly
The North Shore flag
football league is officially over for the 2009 season and going
into hibernation until the spring. This past weekend the league
sent a total of 5 teams to play in the let it Fly tournament
held at Charlestown high school. The weather was the worst the
league has seen all year but despite the conditions the
tournament went ahead and every team played at least three
games. There were 8 teams in total in the U12 category, 2 teams
from Pelham, NH, one team from RI and our own league All-star
team along with teams from Peabody, Salem, Beverly and Lynn.
While every all-star team that the league sends to tournament
has great players the NSFFL All-star team consists of the very
best players that all 5 member towns has to offer.
This past fall the league sent three league wide all-star teams
to Baltimore and New York and every team reached the semi-final
at their respective regional qualifier. The NSFFL All-star team
(Both 9-11 and 12-14 age divisions) is put together every year
to participate in one of the NFL qualifiers with the hope of
winning and moving on to the Nationals. During the year the
league invites players to join the team for practices,
scrimmages and tournaments with the goal of selecting the final
roster for the NFL qualifier every fall.
The NSFFL all-stars that attended the tournament in Charlestown
were; Justin Janice, Johnny Merchado, Spencer Persson, Alex
Gomes, Philip Bynum and Devin Hennessy. The All-stars got off to
a fast start after Shutting out the Pythons of RI 42-0. Their
second game was a much closer one as the Salem Witches held the
all-stars until the last minute when the all-stars scored on a
deep pass with seconds remaining to win 32-26. Due to the poor
weather conditions the tournament was fast tracked and the two
undefeated teams went straight into the Championship game. The
Red Storm of NH finished their '09 campaign on a high note as
they defeated the NSFFL all-stars 21-15 in a well played game. |
