Syracuse Tournament

Last Saturday 2 teams made up of players from across the NSFFL made the trip to Syracuse, NY to compete in the Clay Panthers 1st annual flag football tournament. The tournament was set in Liverpool, NY just outside Syracuse at a nice football facility with many fields, concessions and everything else that was need for a successful tournament. The NSFFL sent 2 all-star teams to enter the 9-11 and 15-17 divisions. On the Sunday the games started at 11am with the older boys going first, in game one the NSFFL boys beat out the Trinity team from PA 34-6 followed by a win 20-6 over the Cobras from NY. In the the third game the NSFFL defeated the nightmare team 30-6 before finally beating out the local Clay Panthers team 46-0 to finish the round robin section #1 with a 4-0 record. In the playoffs the NSFFL all-stars played the #4 nightmare and at half time the score was tied at 12-12. The second half was a different story as the NSFFL team came out strong on defense and put up points offensively and defensively to win the game 33-12 to advance to the final. After a short break, the team faced the Cobras for a second time and after a close first half the NSFFL boys were up 6-0, but as they did all tournament turned it on in the second half with some amazing catches and defensive plays to shut out the Cobras and win the game 26-0. This was the first Championship for the 15-17 group and with a lot of players returning, the next few years should be interesting.

In the first round robin game the Pats faced the Panthers again but with a similar result as they defeated the Panthers team 33-7 to head into the Championships. After a long hot day the 9-11 Championships was the last game of the day and the Patriots went up against the Syracuse team for the second time, the Patriots offense continued to roll and the defense was tough as the NSFFL Patriots won the Championship game 30-6. This was the teams first tournament victory since the NFL FLAG regionals last November, which the team will build on as they prepare for the regionals this coming fall.
