Team X Tournament

Sunday May 16th TEAM X hosted a tournament in Quakertown, PA and the NSFFL entered its first ever team into a U16 category. 8 players from Peabody and Lynn made up the all-star team that made the 7 hour drive to compete in the tournament. 6 of the players drove down the day before while 2 players set of EARLY in the morning to make the tournament and represent the NSFFL.

The roster comprised of Capt Todd Collier (Lynn) Gerald Kahari (Lynn) Chris Therrien (Peabody) Chris Sinvil (Peabody) Johnny Thomas (Peabody) Darius Boyd (Peabody) Carlos Ortiz (Peabody) Jarad Mitchell (Lynn)

In the first game the NSFFL all-stars faced the LBFFA from Leavittown, PA team, the all-stars scored first on a catch and run by Thomas which was soon answered back by 2 TD's from the LBFFA, Collier scored the next TD but after giving up back to back safeties the all-stars were down. In the second half the all-stars struggled on offense and relied on an Ortiz int for TD to make the game closer, Kahari also added another INT but the team could not find the endzone again as they lost the opening game 26-18.

In the second game the all-stars faced the Knights of Lansdale PA and after a long close fought game and Boyd's two TD receptions the all-star won their first game 15-8. The tournament was a 2 game round robin and directly into play-offs, after a 1-1 record the all-stars finished with the 5th overall seed out of 8 teams, which meant they had to face the #4 team from Hightstown, NJ. The boys came out firing as Kahari and Mitchell put points up on the board early while the defense was dominant with sacks from Sinvil and Kahari again returning 2 INT for TD's the final score of the game was NSFFL 25 - Highstown 6.

In the semi-final the all-stars faced the hometown team and last year tournament winners NP FLAG. The all-stars scored quickly as Collier took one the distance along with the catch of the day from Thomas for the XP. The older NP Flag boys showed their experience as they relied on the height to get into the endzone at will. The all-stars were quickly down 20-6 but never gave up as Collier ran another one in, followed by a close range TD from Mitchell to tie the score. With 18 seconds left on the clock NP FLAG found a fast crossing receive that took into the endzone for the victory.

The boys 14 and 15 year olds played extremely well and was the best put together team the league has ever had. Kahari was voted MVP for the team but every player made his mark on the game and the tournament. The boys will now be focusing on the 15-17 division at the Football festival and while the kids are still young we are sure they will represent the league well.
