Beverly League
Champions
After another
successful season in Beverly 4 teams were crowned champions in
each of the 4 age categories. In the 5-6 age category no team
stood out as every team played well the entire season and even
the little Lions that did not manage to win a game all season
came within just one TD of going to the Superbowl. As the season
went on, it was the Bengals and Bears that seemed to have a
slight upper hand as the Bengals only lost one game the whole
season and that was to the Bears. In the Championship game, the
Bears and the Bengals met again but this time is was to be the
Bengals that won the Championship under first time coach. Every
player got a chance to run the ball and play QB/RB or center as
all 4 coaches in the 5-6 division were outstanding with the
kids.
In the 7-8 Division every team won at least one game with the
Browns, Jaguars and Cardinals all being evenly matched, however
it was the Falcons who won all their games on their way to the
championship and proved to be tough competition for the 7-8
division. By the time the play-offs came around the lower seeded
Browns defeated the Jaguars in a high scoring game but the
Cardinals could not pull off the victory against the Falcons.
The Superbowl was played in front of family and friends with
music blasting in the background to provide a Superbowl
atmosphere. The Falcons proved to be too strong for the Browns
as they passed the ball around with confidence to win the 7-8
division Superbowl.
In the 9-11 division the Bills returning for the first time from
their last spring championship dominated the field of play using
their age and experience to their advantage. The Texans, Lions
and Panthers again all won games during the season but could not
hold of the Bills. The Panthers and Texans had a very close game
during the season and met each other again in the play-offs with
the Panthers holding the higher seed, but once again the lower
seed pulled it together and managed to upset the panthers by
winning a great game. On the other side of the bracket the Lions
were defeated by the Bills, however the Lions never gave up,
never complained and played hard until the last whistle. In the
Championship game the Bills won the game and for the second time
were crowned Champions of the 9-11 division.
The 12-14 division had just two teams in the end and both the
Jaguars and Falcons played each other every Saturday at the
Centerville school. Both coaches had coached against each other
in the previous season and met again this season. The Jaguars
were the stronger team as they defeated the Falcons 4 out of 5
games, however it was the Flacons that improved the most during
the course of the season, from their first game blowout to a
couple of close games and then a victory just before the
Superbowl. In the Superbowl however the Jaguars turned it on and
won the game to be crowned 12-14 division champions.
Re-live the season through the photos and movies that are posted
from each week of play.
