This years annual football festival tournament for the first
time ever was a two day event, the tournament was held June 19th
at Manning stadium in Lynn and then on June 20th inside Gillette
stadium, Foxborough, MA. Lynn sent a record 7 teams in total to
the event representing the 6-8, 9-11, 12-14 and 15-17 divisions.
All-star try-outs were held and along with coaches nominations
to send 70 top flight Lynn players to Gillette.
In the 6-8 division Lynn entered 2 teams, the Rams and the
Bulldogs and while both teams were very talented the Rams had
high expectations for their fully loaded team. The teams played
a total of 7 games of flag football over the two days and while
the Bulldogs didnt manage to etch out a win, they still got to
go to Gillette stadium twice!! and play on the same field as
their heroes. The Rams went 1-1 on the first day of competition
and then faced the local Bulldogs team in the first round of the
play-offs, the Rams took the game 26-6 and faced the Salisbury
team in the second round, however after a close game the Rams
just lost out 12-6.
Lynn also entered 2 teams in the 9-11 division and finished 9th
and 14th out of 20 teams. The Bulldogs finished their tournament
even at 2 wins and 2 losses while the Rams went 1-3 over the two
days after loosing out to the Bears of NY and the National
Champs Mo Steel from Miami, FL.
In the 12-14 division, Lynn sent its very own Chargers that
recently won their league and Championship series title along
with a Lynn all-star team. The Chargers finished 3rd overall in
the tournament and made it the Semi-finals.
Lynn had one team enter the 15-17 division and were players from
past regionals and from last years 12-14 Championship team. Lynn
finished the first day 2-0 and after beating the Peabody
all-stars headed to the championship game to face the other
undefeated team from PA. The game was close and defense
dominated, non more so than a last minute interception from the
PA team to close out the game 16-14.
Lynn also had several girls along with girls from Peabody and
Revere on the league all-star team. There were three girls teams
including a team from NY and CT. The girls all played each other
once on the first day and the tournament and the all-stars went
undefeated, on the second day in Gillette the teams all played
each other one more time and then the two teams with the best
record played in the Championship game and for the third time
the NSFFL All-stars defeated the CT big blue to win the
Championship trophy!!!
