By the end of the
season in the 7-8 division only one win separated 3rd-5th place
as the teams battled it out each week. When the play-offs came
around both the Raiders and Bengals had a bye week and while it
helped the Raiders it was no benefit to the #2 Bengals as they
were knocked out of the play-offs by the #3 Dolphins. The
Raiders returning from their Championship a year ago started of
strong and finished even stronger as they remained undefeated
during the season and the play-offs to win the Championship
against the Dolphins in Lynn. The Raiders were not done there as
they headed into the Championship series and continued their
winning ways by beating teams from Peabody and Pelham, NH to win
the Championship series 7-8 division.
The 9-12 division (not the typical 9-11 division) in Lynn was
created due to the amount of 12 year olds and no 13+ boys or
girls so the age group was expanded, hopefully next spring with
all the games being played at manning bowl we will be able to
break the two divisions back to 9-11 and 12-14. The Titans and
Steelers were hot favorites in the AFC as both teams entered the
last week of the season undefeated, but it was the Steelers that
came away with the victory and the #1 seed heading into the
playoffs. While in the NFC the Redskins* lost the first game of
the season but never looked back as they went on to win 6 in a
row on their way to the Superbowl. The play-offs saw only one
big upset and 2 other near upsets as the #4 49ers only lost by
one TD to the #1 Redskins and the #5 Colts only lost by one
point to the #4 Patriots. The upset of the season was when the
#3 Chargers knocked off the #2 Titans and their #1 ranked
offense to face the Steelers in the AFC Championship game. In
the NFC Championship the Redskins and the Cowboys was a rematch
of earlier in the season when the two teams combined for over 90
points. This time around though the Skins held the Cowboys in
check as they won the game 32-6. The Steelers also held strong
as they defeated the Chargers. In the end the #1 Steelers beat
the #1 Redskins* for the Lynn 9-12 Championship. |
