Salem League
Champions
The NSFFL ran the
NFL flag football program in Salem for the first time this past
spring and what a season it was. All the games were played on
Saturday afternoons at Mansell Park in Salem in great conditions
all season long. For a first season program the 8 teams that
were in the league provided just the right amount of kids for
everyone to play and have fun.
In the younger division the teams were split up into a 5-8 age
category as there were not enough children the first time around
to field a 5-6 and 7-8 division. Despite the expanding of the
age group the games were great, the top 2 teams both won 3 games
and the bottom two teams won 2 games, so during the season any
team could beat any team which was evident In the play-offs as
the # 4 seed beat the #1 seed and the #3 beat the #2. In the
Championship game the #3 Bills defeated the #4 Browns to be
crowned the first ever NFL youth flag football champions.
Similar to the younger division the 9-11 division was expanded
to 9-12 to accommodate some of the slightly older kids that
still wanted to play. During the season it was the Cowboys that
went undefeated as they beat every team by a comfortable margin,
the Bengals only lost 2 games all season and both losses were to
the Cowboys. In the play-offs the Cowboys defeated the Broncos
and the Bengals beat out the Ravens to set up a third meeting
between the Cowboys and Bengals.
Heading into the
Superbowl the #1 Cowboys had the league’s best offense and the
#1 defense but that didn’t stop the Bengals as they played their
best game of the season and shut out the Cowboys 14-0 to claim
the Championship.
Re-live the season through the photos and movies that are posted
from each week of play.
