Salem League Champions

Salem just ended its second season of NFL youth flag football in the NSFFL. The second season like the first had 8 teams in total with 4 teams in the 5-8 category and 4 teams in the 9-12 category. The Salem season had a total of 3 rainouts and one postponed week due to Halloween and all the road closures.

In the younger 5-8 division every team managed to record a win during the season but only the Saints would finish the season undefeated. The Eagles proved to be tough competition for the Saints as they only lost to the Saints and the two teams tied on their last game heading into the play-offs. In the play-offs the #1 Saints defeated the #4 Giants but the #3 Patriots upset the #2 Eagles to make it to the superbowl game. The Saints maintained their unbeaten record and won the Superbowl over the Patriots comfortably, the Saints also participated in the NSFFL Championship series and won two games by beating the Peabody Cardinals and the Beverly Bills.

In the older 9-12 category the number of participants was down from the spring 09 season due to the number of players that play in the NECYFL, nevertheless each week the boys and girls of Salem played flag football at Mansel park and had fun while doing it. A few weeks into the season it was clear that the Giants were the team to beat and while the Raiders only lost one game all season the Giants continued to dominate the league and finished the season undefeated and Superbowl champions. Every player that reached the Championship game received a trophy and bragging writes over there friends until next season.

The spring 2010 season in Salem looks promising as the league might be playing their games at the home of the Salem Witches very own Bertram field. Keep an eye on the web site for updates and registration for the 2010 season.
Congratulations to all the players and teams that participated in the Salem league and hopefully see you all next year.
